Re: Shane Claiborne and the rich young ruler
I thoroughly enjoyed this post. I have been researching and have enjoyed Shane Claiborne’s books and lifestyle. It is refreshing to see that in the Western World a person can live with such humility and life altering state.
In this postmodern world, Postmodernists such as Michael Welker see church unity established by Spirit-inspired church practices (rather than by a traditional notion of “the unity of the Spirit”). For Welker, church unity “becomes a reality … by cultivating creaturely differences and by removing unrighteous differences.” God does not “stand above” the community but rather influences the community through those who receive the outpouring of the Spirit. The community does not experience the Spirit as an “authority” but as a powerful “force field” liberating people from bondage.
This thought from Welker truly points to the life that Shane is living in a world that is leaning toward cultural things.
Although, lets face it, not everyone has the same passions and leads the same life as Shane does and I believe it is all for a good reason.
The God of the universe has called Shane to live a radical life, but I believe that God is calling us all to something different. Shane is living his life in Philadelphia for this time and this season. I believe he called Billy Graham to the life that he leads for a certain time and season too. And I believe God is calling me to live the way I live and the place that I live for a reason and a season.
The Spirit moves in amazing ways and God’s will, will prevail and with that in mind, he is using Shane in Philadelphia doing something great. He is using Rob Bell’s Nooma videos to do something also great all so that disciples will be made and every knee will bow.
