A conflict in basic assumptions
A conflict in basic assumptions
I’ve just been turned onto this site and this is my first post, so bear with me.
I think Paul’s question is an interesting one, but I think there are some underlying contradictions in the assumptions the second question make.
It sounds like on one hand Paul is assuming the existence of God based on his mentioning of Jesus as our Savior. However, it also sounds like he is assuming that life arises mainly as a product of chance by citing the number of stars (or chances) we have of having other sentient life in the universe. Most commonly this assumption that life arises as a product of chance excludes the possible existence of God.
To put it another way. If we believe in God, and Jesus his Son, and we believe he created the universe, why can’t we assume we are the only life in 125 billion galaxies? And if there ARE other civilization, why can’t we assume God, who seems to have a plan for us, also has a plan for them?
