I shut down the private message function a while back because it was sending out false notifications to people. The module has been upgraded so, at John Clements’ prompting, I have reinstalled it. You will find a link to send a message to the author of posts and comments. You can also access it via the ‘My Inbox’ link at the top.
If you do not wish to receive private messages, you can disable the function by editing your user information.
Remember that while other users cannot see your messages, they are not encrypted so the all-seeing administrator, if he so chooses, can view what you have written. I have no intention of doing so - I regard them as strictly private. I just feel you ought to know.
The module is still a development version so it may not work perfectly. Let me know if you have bad experiences.
If anyone was having trouble with the comment RSS feed, that has also been fixed.

Andrew, I keep being told that I’ve got a message, but when I go to my inbox, there’s nothing there.

Oh dear! That was why I disabled it in the first place. I’ve made a change to the set-up that may fix it. If not, let me know.
