Israel

What is the relationship between the modern state of Israel and the ancient Israel of the Holy Bible?

In Christianity Today, "What it Means to Love Israel," was posted today. It is a short piece worth checking out.

At one point the author writes:

The evangelical mainstream needs to do some rigorous theological work on its relationship to Judaism, to the Jewish people, and to the state of Israel.

Anti-Semitism and emerging church

Richard Littlejohn reports boldly, enthusiastically and movingly for Channel 4 on an appalling recent rise of antisemitism which has arisen within Britain during the past ten years, such that a Parliamentary committee convened to investigate the rise of antisemitic behaviour was shocked by its intensity and scope.

My question, thus, is this: what role does the emerging church see for Christians in relationship with an embattled Jewish community?

Eschatology and the Middle East

The relationship of biblical prophecy to current events in the Middle East was raised by the discussion in another thread on Ezekiel 38-39. In wishing to pursue the subject, and in view of the pressing importance of Middle East politics - not just for the theology of the church but for its very survival and that of its message, I felt a separate discussion thread was needed.

David

I am currently working on a project about the historical David that will hopefully see publication some day. As a researcher, I am curious about everyone’s position on David and his place in the history of Israel and thereby the church’s history and future.
