On editorial intervention

John Doyle’s Genesis 1 as ‘Truth Myth’ post has generated some excellent discussion, but it is getting unwieldy. I have taken a couple of cuttings off the branch and transplanted them, mainly because I felt that freespirit’s contributions were taking the discussion in a rather different (and somewhat cabbalistic) direction: Wisdom, understanding and knowledge; Wisdom, spirit and creation.

There are links to these posts from the original thread. They raise a very different set of questions about how we interpret scripture, which I think should be addressed separately. I hope freespirit sees this as a constructive and respectful editorial move.

Open Source Theology back online

Open Source Theology is back online after an unfortunate breakdown of communication between myself and the cybersphere. Apologies to everyone who tried to access the site during the period of de-activation. On Ladies’ finals day at Wimbledon I shall simply quote Bosola from The Duchess of Malfi: ‘We are merely the stars’ tennis-balls, struck and bandied Which way please them.’

Call for submissions for Ruminate: an art and literary journal of faith

Ruminate is a quarterly magazine for artists who desire the space to share short stories, poetry, creative non-fiction, memoirs and visual art that resonate with the complexity and truth of the Christian faith. Each issue is a forum for literature that speaks to the existence of our daily lives while nudging us toward a greater hope.

Next-Wave article on theological formation and open source theology

What can only be described as a very perceptive article by Drew Moser on Next-Wave (‘Power to the People! How Technology is Changing the Face of Theological Formulation’) has some nice things to say about Open Source Theology and its participants: ‘…participants of Open Source Theology are typically very well read in classic and contemporary theological works, and yet they also have a profound sense of the pulse of the culture in which they live.’ You all deserve a pat on the back!

Upgrade

I have upgraded the system that Open Source Theology runs on. As with most upgrades there is likely to be some degradation of service for a while. Some things are likely to have disappeared, and new-fangled functions will have been added, not all of which will be immediately apparent and not all of which will work properly. But in general terms it seems to be working OK. Let me know if you come across anything that’s badly broken.
